I have been with them for over twenty years. Lately they wont help you with anything but will take your money and say they will help but they lie through their teeth. In fact if you pay to have your site on there that you design they have a sneaky thing where they tell you you have to hit a button that’s states you did not save it but you did and then they make you pay to get the old saved one back because they wipe out your entire site. Un freaking real! They hang up on you. Their employees don’t know how to do anything technical except bill your charge card. I’m looking to relocate my 5 sites elsewhere. If they were a family member they wont be forbidden to come to my home and their number would be blocked. They suck! Rude, obnoxious and unprofessional if you like abuse..go with them.
Save yourself the time and stress- go with ANY other web host! I've been with Netfirms for 18 years and finally had to pull the plug today. I had them succesfully remove a card from my account in September as it belonged to someone who has passed away. Even though the card was removed from my account, they still tried to charge that same card in January (4 months later) and are holding me responsible for a charge back fee and have suspended my hosting account until it is paid. 48 minutes on the phone with a customer service rep who wpuld not listen got me absolutely nowhere. The customer service rep could not understand that this was an issue with Netfirms' billing and kept telling me I need to talk to the deceased person's non existing bank/credit card company! Wow, the only thing that makes sense here is to switch hosting companies!
Cutting to the chase, I've made the decision to leave Netfirms after a lengthy time as a customer. My main reasons for going are: - Price: they used to be one of the cheapest with tons of features. Now prices are far higher - For the past year I couldn''t set up FTP accounts, which is a pain for uploading web content. This was a fault they never resolved - Their control panel simply STOPPED working in Safari browser (mac). Unacceptable - Domain renewal costs seem to have spiked - They charge for renewals 14 day before it's due, which is ridiculous (I believe a strategy to entrap people into renewing, when they planned to cancel) - I found the latest incarnation of the control panel way more difficult to find what I was looking for. Looks cleaner but I never got used to the new design and layout
BUT - Their technical support ALWAYS handled my queries quickly and efficiently (except the FTP problem mentioned) - I've never noticed any outages on my (simple) website and email accounts all seemed to work a vast majority of the time - They were helpful in moving my domains between accounts with them
Because of the technical barriers I won't be going back to Netfirms. However, they treated me ok and I believe for others could be a good choice if you get attractive pricing and their control panel works for you and your browser.
I ended up moving to Dreamhost, so time will tell if this is a move I'll thank myself for or regret
When I purchased a business hosting plan with unlimited (ie. FREE) web domains nearly 10 yrs ago, I felt it was a good deal. I auto renewed my domains under the hosting plan and continued this way for some time. However after a number of years I realized the value I was getting for the money was not equal to what other services were providing so I started to slowly migrate my services away from Netfirms. This spring, I began working on preparing the final migration of my last two domains that are actively hosted on the platform. Turned all the domains to manual bill and rec'd auth codes to transfer them elsewhere. Rec'd email confirmations of this from Netfirms and even a email reminder that my domains would expire if I didn't take immediate action. This happened on May 3 2021. Unbeknownst to me, on May 13, 2021 Netfirms billed me for hosting while having ZERO domains under their platform!! Let me repeat...I had ZERO domains under my profile and the last two that I transferred out were acquired free under the hosting plan. I never paid extra for those domains to renew annually as they were tied to the hosting. Their deceptive billing knowing that I had zero domains to host on their platform triggered a negative balance with Paypal, which is how I had my billing set up. Eventually this caused my Paypal account to be locked as I wasn't aware of this outstanding payment as I believed my services ported out. When I brought the matter up to Netfirms asking for full refund/partial credit for the time remaining, in true fashion they tried to blame ME for not calling them to cancel the hosting plan!!! WTF? What is a backend self-service portal for?? If I move a domain which is directly associated to the hosting plan, then that should trigger the hosting plan to also stop or at least some sort of email communication that my hosting plan would be disrupted. But that must be too hard to implement or at least show some level of customer service or care...Then they tried to say that I had 30 days for a money-backed guarantee had I called about this sooner...yah right. Oh, and to actually locate the screen where you can cancel your subscription is buried so deep without any direct /accessible link proves that they want to make it extremely difficult for you to cancel. When you select the immediate cancellation option, coincidentally no where does it say your billing will also stop immediately. 10+ yrs loyalty and this is what you get. Stay away from them. not worth the headache and they are too damn expensive compared to what you can get elsewhere.
I've used Netfirms for probably two decades now, and I own about 8 domain names. Registering domain names with them is easy and fine, and they auto-renew, which works well for me.
Over the years they have upgraded their user interface to be a little better and friendly, but it's still very hard to find what you're looking for. And their customer support sucks. I wanted to use them for Google Workspace because they offer a cheaper rate, but after exchanging one message with customer service trying to solve a problem, I never heard back from them. You really have to get on chat or the phone in order to resolve your issue.
But I have never had issues with downtime on any of my websites and it's fairly easy to make changes to nameservers and things like that.
Don't believe a word Michael Lavnduski says about Netfirms!
If you want to work with a company that cares about you and your business, GO ELSEWHERE! NO customer service! NO help resolving billing issues! NO way to talk to a real person, and if you do call the number they advertise in their correspondences, don't be surprised that you will wait and wait and nobody will answer the call after being transferred to a real person! If I could rate them lower than a piece of dog dung my neighbors dog left in my yard, I would....
